Hearing Instrument Specialist

Location: Lake Mary, FL

Job Summary:

The Hearing Instrument Specialist is responsible for evaluating clients' hearing needs, fitting and dispensing hearing aids, providing follow-up care, and offering education on the use and maintenance of hearing devices. The specialist works closely with audiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best outcomes for clients with hearing loss.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Client Assessment and Evaluation:

    • Conduct thorough hearing evaluations to determine the type and degree of hearing loss.
    • Review clients' medical histories and hearing-related concerns.
    • Collaborate with audiologists or physicians to interpret audiometric data and make recommendations.
  2. Hearing Aid Fitting and Adjustment:

    • Select and fit appropriate hearing aids or other auditory devices based on clients’ needs and preferences.
    • Adjust and fine-tune hearing aids to ensure optimal performance and comfort.
    • Provide instruction on how to use and care for hearing aids.
  3. Ongoing Client Support:

    • Offer regular follow-up appointments to monitor hearing aid performance and make necessary adjustments.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to hearing aids or auditory devices.
    • Educate clients and their families about hearing loss, hearing aids, and communication strategies.
  4. Device Maintenance and Repair:

    • Perform routine maintenance on hearing aids, including cleaning and checking for functionality.
    • Coordinate repairs with manufacturers or service providers as needed.
  5. Record Keeping and Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including hearing assessments, device fittings, and follow-up care.
    • Document all interactions, adjustments, and recommendations in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  6. Professional Development:

    • Stay current with advancements in hearing aid technology and hearing healthcare practices.
    • Participate in continuing education and training to maintain certification and enhance skills.
  7. Compliance and Ethical Practices:

    • Adhere to all legal, ethical, and professional standards in the provision of hearing care.
    • Ensure that all practices are in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; specialized training or degree in Hearing Instrument Sciences or a related field.
  • Certification: Certification as a Hearing Instrument Specialist (e.g., National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences) is often required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a similar role is preferred, but entry-level candidates with relevant education may be considered.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work with diverse populations and address their specific needs.
    • Technical skills for handling and repairing hearing devices.
    • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
